Hurricane Sandy was a very destructive hurricane that hit Eastern United States, Bahamas and the Greater Antilles region of the Caribbean. This hurricane hit these countries in October of 2012. The hurricane resulted in the loss of life as well as a great damage to property in these areas. It was one of the most destructive hurricanes of all time. The experts have put forth the idea that this Hurricane was a direct result of the major environmental problem of global warming that is faced by our planet today.

United States of America bore the maximum economic damage as well as loss of life due to this hurricane. The United States authorities knew this was coming and had taken many precautionary measures. The authorities also were sending warning messages to people urging them to stay safe. However the Hurricane Sandy made landfall in many states and left a destructive path in its wake. The States of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, New York , Washington D.C and the New England region were affected by the hurricane. The major cities like the New York City and the Atlantic City were affected. The New York Subway System and tunnels were flooded and it took a while to drain out the flood. There was flooding in many states in America. Also there were power outages in many states in America for days. There was a tremendous loss of property. Many houses were destroyed and flooded, trees came down and also there were incidents of fire that were reported in many neighborhoods. The death toll was more than 70 in America as deaths were reported from many states. The economic damage was estimated to be more than 70 billion dollars to the United States.

The Hurricane Sandy also impacted nations in the Caribbean and slight impact was even felt in Canada as well. The authorities in the Caribbean countries had also taken the precautions that they could before the hurricane. Haiti and Cuba suffered many casualties and also a heavy economic impact as well. Other countries in the Caribbean that suffered the impact of Hurricane Sandy include Dominican Republic, Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
The Hurricane Sandy was a devastating hurricane for the eastern coastal states of the United States and many Caribbean countries. The efforts to rebuild properties and lives of those affected by the hurricane are underway and will take some time.
