Investment in BRIC Countries

The term BRIC is a short form of Brazil, Russia, India and China. There is so much is being discussed about BRIC countries that I thought we should take an overview of what the BRIC countries signify in the world of investments. World economies have seen a lot of bumps and turbulence in the recent past. This is the main reason why the BRIC countries have gained importance in the eyes of global investors. The reducing rates of internal economic growth, reduction in domestic demand; the market decline has created a serious threat to the overall survival of investors and those looking for new ways to invest their resources to ensure a good return on capital and also the safety of their capital. And as with any form of growth, investment was the idea that investments in these countries or companies that deal with or heavily in these countries could lead to high yields.

The four major developing countries, the BRIC countries, the potential demographic and economic rank among the largest economies in the world and influential in the 21 century. Together, the four BRIC countries are home to more than 2.8 billion people or 40 percent of the world, covers a quarter of the area of the world on three continents, representing more than 25 percent of global GDP. The key to successful investing in the BRIC markets is the ability to invest long term, and try to avoid and ignore all the problems in the short term. The truth is that no investment in the BRIC market will run smoothly, since by definition these are new markets / underdeveloped and the authorities will put the various regulations, rules and guidelines in place.

The BRIC countries have entered the global economic stage with a new found confidence. Shanghai hosted Expo 2010 which focused on its goal of becoming a global financial center by 2020 – to invest double that of rival Beijing which hosted the Olympic Games in 2008. Brazil will go ahead with its infrastructure boom as it hosts both the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. Two of the top five of the world on the Forbes list of rich are in India. In 2010, Moscow has the second highest number of billionaires in the world after New York and Mumbai is following close.

And today it can be less complicated than ever to invest in BRIC. With the companies listed on the NYSE, 34 are Brazilian, six Russian; eight are from India and 16 from China. And this does not include technology companies that are traded on the NASDAQ. There are some exchange-traded funds as BRIC – iShares MSCI BRIC Index (BKF) and SPDR BRIC 40 (BIK). When it comes to the global energy industry, the BRIC countries have already taken over the United States. When we look at the past fifteen years, we find that the domain of energy supply in Europe and the U.S. have begun to weaken. The best companies in these countries are Petroleo Brasileiro, PetroChina, Gazprom and India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corp. I hope you have a full understanding of the BRIC nations now.

Conclusion
There is no doubt that the economies of the BRIC are very different in many ways from each other, we all have special building blocks in place for the future. They will be able to realize their potential in the short, medium or long term needs to be seen, but if we consider that countries like Brazil, which went from zero to hero in a relatively short space of time is a perfect reflection of how things can change very quickly.
