The overwhelming fact is that over 15 million people are unemployed in the United States at the time of writing. Probably some of the most discouraged today are those who have lost their jobs. No job security no longer exists. Imagine this, after working for 30 years at the age of 49 and a half years and with a family of three to feed, Robert was laid off. This is not just the story of Robert but of two-third of the American population in every locality, every town and every city. Unemployment figures show that many Americans are losing their jobs at an alarming rate. As mergers, pay cuts and layoffs are an ever-present reality, independently preparing a “rainy day” is a good idea to say the least.


It ‘important to understand that America is in recession. The unemployment rate is 9.1%, the highest since 1983. Recessions are not new. According to the NBER since 1854 there have been 29 times economic growth, and 29 recessions. News, television reporters, talk show, friends, relatives and even strangers are all talking about the problems in today’s economy. Unemployment is a silent killer. It can kill your spirit. It can kill your confidence. It can kill your bank account. It ‘important to take steps now to prepare for the 2012 depression. You may get unemployment benefits, but that is not sufficient to pay the rent (or mortgage). You cannot find a job and friends cannot help you either, cos they have a similar story to tell. How to survive a bad economy?

The first thing you should know is help. It is not easy to find, but there are some things you can do to help yourself have a difficult time. Times are tough out there today. There is no pot of gold behind the rainbow. Do not despair, because you cannot find something soon. Good news! A growing number of private lenders are willing to assume financial responsibility for short-term unsecured loans for unemployed people to help in these difficult economic times. This allows you to focus your all-important job search. Here are some tips to survive unemployment:

  • Look for creative ways to reduce your monthly expenses. Start by writing out all your monthly expenses. Stick it on the refrigerator, watch them closely like you watch your kids daily school Time-Table
  • Develop your skills. You can make yourself valuable at work by improving the knowledge of your field and areas connected to it – in particular, human relations and people skills.
  • Develop multiple skills. You should have 1 more skill apart for which you were hired and make sure you sharpen both your skills. This can make you indispensable at your workplace.
  • Really look at how much you are falling short each month. Once you have cut spending seriously, and you cannot think of anything else to cut, you could be in for a surprise.
  • There are several ways to make money online. You can sell your own products, selling information products, enroll in paid surveys, paid to surf programs, and last but not the least – affiliate marketing.
  • Start a small business in your spare time. There are many businesses you can start with little money.
  • Get a mentor or consult an expert. You need someone with knowledge and experience to guide you and give you all the tools and resources you need to weather the storm.
  • If you own shares or units as an investment, you should consider whether to keep them during a crash. Most people do not do well at all during a crash.
  • You can also hook up with a sub-broker and do Trading. Whether the market is bullish or bearish a good traders will never lose money. They know when to buy and when to sell, but make sure you have a good mentor and learn the tricks of the business before trading in large numbers.
  • Make a plan – and start working on that plan. The biggest secret is to start. Too many people think themselves to death and DO NOT do anything. Don’t just Think, but EXECUTE your plan.
