Mid Life Crisis for Men and Women
Mid life Crisis is a time when adults come to realize their own mortality and how much time is left in their life. This mid life crisis is experienced equally by men and women between 35 to 50 years of age when they suddenly realize that life may be halfway over. Nowadays mid life crisis is called as a transition in life which is not all that bad. Some may treat it as a joke but for those affected, it can be very depressing.
There are many factors related to this crisis which have occurred in the life of a person like death of a parent, job problems like losing a job or not happy in the job, children leaving home for further education or job, medical conditions like andropause in men and menopause in women. There are some anxieties over some issues about what one has accomplished in life either in personal life or professional life. Health experts feel it may be a controversial syndrome related to the brain and the hormonal changes in the body. Some other factors like divorce, separation, long term illness, physical appearance and job related problems can trigger this transition of mental worry. If this transition turns into serious depression then help has to be taken from experts in this matter.
Men may measure their worth by their performance in life. Their achievements may not be of a standard they had imagined in life, so this transition in life is frustrating to them. They believe that now since the age has increased it is not possible to achieve anything great in life anymore. In the same manner women try to evaluate their performance in relationship as a mother, as a wife or both. Whether this midlife crisis may develop into serious depression or may develop into an opportunity for growth, depends on number of factors like support from partners, friends or loved ones.
A person in mid life needs to reevaluate and think of the goals he has to achieve in this period of life. It is very important for him to trust a friend or a therapist who will help him to overcome this transition in life. Most important thing is to embrace midlife and not fear it as many problems in life can be reversed. There are some people who think that midlife crisis can be prevented by making some changes early in life. In other words mental preparation may reduce the over powering mid life Crisis feelings that lead to mid life crisis.
