Romney the Socialist!

Ok, now that I have your attention, let’s talk about the debate. I’ll get to Romney being a socialist at the end of this article, but first let’s look at some issues from tonight’s debate:

First off, the GOP, Fox news, Fox talk, Patriot XM channel and other right wing organizations need to drop this whole semantics issue when it comes to this Libya attack. The President definitely used the words “act of terror” when referring to the attack in Benghazi. Here are the President’s exact words the VERY NEXT day after the attack:

“No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America”

Why would he talk about “acts of terror” the next day and it not be about the incident that the press conference was called for? Why would he mention, “act of terror” and then mention the four Americans that died in a tragedy? The GOP is just looking foolish and petty with this issue.

Also, if the GOP is furious over this failure in intelligence by the Obama administration, but where was the outrage and condemnation when failed intelligence led to 3,000 US citizens getting killed on 9/11 and several thousand US troop in Iraq?

Production of Oil on Federal Lands

President Romney harshly, and very wrongly, stated that production of oil has declined during the Obama years. In fact, overall, oil production on federal land under Obama is up from 566 million barrels in 2008 to 626 million barrels in 2011, a 10.6 percent increase. What Romney has done is to look at only the last 12 months in which there has been a decline. But over the course of the Obama administration, oil production on federal lands has indeed increased by 10.6%.

Revoking Drilling Permits on Federal Lands

Romney also mentioned the revoking of permits for drilling. In any lease for mineral and drilling rights there are time limits under which the lessee has to start drilling. Otherwise, companies would take these leases and just sit on them forever. The idea of these leases is to start work quickly as possible, start creating jobs and make American energy independent. If a company does not drill in time, let’s give the permits to another company that will!

Government Doesn’t Create Jobs

This is a talking point of the GOP, which Romney desperately clung to tonight. Although he said the government doesn’t create jobs, he promised to create 12 million of them if elected. However his record as governor in Massachusetts clearly shows that government does indeed NOT create jobs, as Massachusetts was third from the bottom in the country for job creation. Whether the government does create jobs or not, Romney sure doesn’t know how.

Pell Grant

Romney said he loves the Pell Grant and wants every young person to have the opportunity to have higher learning. However, Romney should take a gander at his running mate’s budget plan. In Paul Ryan’s plan, there is a deep and long term cut to the Pell Grant.

Romney the Socialist

Now we get to the point about Romney being a Socialist. He stated that in Massachusetts, the top 25% percent of high school students get a full tuition paid scholarship to the state university. This was under the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. Where does this money come from? Yes, it comes from the tax payers. That, my friends, is socialism.

Romney has played every angle in this election, I’m not sure he even knows what he is anymore. Romney came out of gate kind of like Sarah Palin did with her first fiery speech. It got the republican base and some independents fired up. They say the right things; the punch lines that the right wants to hear. However, after that initial jolt, we learn that they both are just repeating the same old GOP talking points but no actions or sensible plans.
