Tourism– Recession Prone industry

Although the American workforce continues to be exported to cheaper places like China or India, and the average American consumes more than they earn, it is comforting to know that there is an area where jobs are not exported, and the money comes from national sources and abroad and that industry is tourism. Take advantage of a steep, three-year fall of the dollar, the tourism industry is flourishing throughout the country, with a growing number of visitors from abroad. The increase in travel to the United States is the most effective form of economic stimulus package to support communities, injecting billions in the U.S. economy and creating millions of new American jobs.

A city in the United States is trying to boost tourism. A division of Tourism would like to include in its tourist brochure, the middle range of temperatures that occur on 90% of the days there. In addition to gains from direct sales to visitors, many indirect benefits are created by tourism. Visitors contribute to the IRS income received and can affect the quality of life by supporting community facilities such as swimming pools, golf courses, restaurants and shops. Income from tourism has long been responsible for supporting the independent economy of each state and its profits were used to help build new and repair old roads, bridges, build new hospitals and public institutions.
This is one of the few sectors where the U.S. can use this as a tool of diplomacy to improve foreign relations as well as the safety of both national and international tourists. Referring to the economic impact of tourism in the New York region, Rosemary Scanlon, chief economist for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, estimated that tourists and business travelers supported 263 000 jobs in restaurants, hotels and tourism, related industries. America would re-create up to 1.3 million U.S. jobs by 2020 compared to 2010 and to produce an overall $ 859 billion in economic output.

Tourism also offers other indirect benefits. For example, the need to provide services for tourists creates new jobs in the Community. Although they may not be high paying job, these jobs meet the needs of students and dual-earning families as part-time work. In addition, tourism (especially nature based) tends to encourage responsible use of land if the tourism being sold is sustainable. Sustainable tourism means that they need not deplete natural resources (eg, clearing forests, pollute the air, changing the water and rivers, hunting or fishing, etc.) to make money. So not only does this help in protecting our environment but eco-tourism is being looked at a great new opportunity in Eco-Tourism Industry, where people want to get in touch with nature without harming the nature.
